Walker County Arts Alliance accepting youth artwork for upcoming exhibit

The Walker County Arts Alliance (WCAA) is calling all young artists in Walker County for its upcoming Budding Artists Exhibit.

The exhibit is open to all high school and college students in Walker County Schools, Jasper City Schools, private schools or homeschooled. It is requested the students be residents of Walker County.

Submissions may include drawings, paintings, digital art, sculpture, pottery, printmaking, textiles or photography. There is no fee to submit artwork.

“We want to connect with creative students that would like to participate in a high school and college exhibit at the Walker County Arts Alliance gallery. Although not every school has an art program, we are sure there are talented students out there that are exploring the arts and making things on their own initiative. We would like to encourage them and help them show their work,” said Kate Gurganus, WCAA executive director.

Artists should bring up to three submissions to the WCAA gallery ready to hang and display the week of Feb. 20-28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Canvases must be dry and wired for hanging.

Artwork on paper must be matted and in a plastic sleeve to prevent damage. The artwork will be for exhibit only and will not be for sale while on display at the Walker County Arts Alliance.

The Budding Artists Exhibit will be on display March 6, 2023 to May 14, 2023.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 9th from 6 to 8 p.m.

Admission is $10 Adults, $5 Children (FREE admission for participating artists). Cash/Check/Venmo will be accepted at the door.

Light refreshments will be served.

Pick up artwork the week of May 15-19. All artwork left behind will become the property of the Walker County Arts Alliance.
