Freeze watch issued for Walker County

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a freeze watch for much of central Alabama, including Walker County.

In the weather bulletin released Monday morning, the Weather Service said that “sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees” and possible from late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” the bulletin reads. “To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.”

Areas north of Walker County, including Marion, Winston and Cullman counties have been placed under a freeze warning from 2 a.m. until 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
