Editor’s note: The following is a timeline of events stemming from the shooting and subsequent manhunt by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office from Thursday and Friday. More details will be available after a press conference on Monday.
An early-morning shooting in Walker County on Thursday left one person dead and two others injured, and authorities apprehended the two suspects late Friday night.
The shooting happened about 5 a.m. on Hill Drive in Quinton near the Walker and Jefferson county line.
The homicide victim’s identity was confirmed as Matthew Douglas Perrigin, 32, of Quinton. He discovered outside of the residence and pronounced dead on the scene.
Authorities have not released the names of the other two victims.
Corey Ryan Mahaffey, 36, of Dora was apprehended at a residence in Hartselle late Friday naught. Sheriff Nick Smith said he had been in contact with a Mahaffey most of the day Friday.
Corey Mahaffey is charged with capital murder during a robbery and capital murder aiding and abetting. He is also charged with two counts of first-degree assault.
The juvenile suspect was taken into custody a short time later. Both are in the Walker County Jail. His name or charges have not been made public yet. Multiple law enforcement agencies helped with the hunt for the suspects.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a press conference for 2 p.m. on Monday to release more information about the fatal shooting and manhunt they followed. The Community Journal plans to broadcast that press conference live on its Facebook page.
