The City of Dora will soon start a project to give the lake adjacent to Dora Park a major facelift.
The Dora City Council voted to begin the bid process on the Dora Lake development project. The estimate from Nelson Engineering for $343,000 was reviewed, which includes entrance road work, a paved asphalt parking area, gravel walking path to the lake, an asphalt road to maintenance building, concrete work along Sharon Boulevard, a 60’x28’ pavilion, which includes women’s and men’s restrooms with two stalls each, septic system, water and power lines to the pavilion.
Mayor Randy Stephens said on Monday that $226,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds will be used on the project, while the remainder will be paid by the city.
According to Stephens, the project should be completed by the end of the year.
“I’m hopeful it can be done by October,” he said. “I think they will get a lot of it done during the summer, but we have no way of knowing for sure this early on when an exact completion date might be.”
In other action, the council:
- Held a first reading of an ordinance for property owned by Alawest to be annexed into the city. Stephens presented the petition from Alawest-AL, LLC for annexation into the City of Dora. The ordinance will be advertised, then read again at the city’s next meeting before possibly being voted on at the council’s second meeting in March.
- Approved training for the magistrate to attend training in Birmingham.
- Approved the purchase of a changing message sidewalk sign and letter kit to advertise for Dora Park and Rec activities for $639.95.
