Jordan Madison, a lifetime Walker County resident, announced during the public comment section of the Walker County Commission meeting on Tuesday his intentions to run for Walker County Commission Chairman in 2024.
Madison, a Republican from Parrish, also made the announcement later in the day on social media.
“Walker County holds a special place in my heart — it’s where I was born, raised, attended school, raise my kids and built my business,” he said. “This county is not just a geographical location to me; it’s my home, a place where cherished memories have been created.”
Madison, owner of Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiujitsu in Jasper, said he understands the challenges related to the position of county chairman.
“Throughput my life, I have witnessed the strength, resilience, and the deep sense of community that defines Walker County.” He said. “I understand the challenges we face—the importance of improving our roadways, creating job opportunities, investing in infrastructure, and seeking additional funding through grants to enhance our county. It is time for new generation of leadership.”
In speaking about the four-district system in Walker County, Madison said some districts have been managed better than others. He didn’t specify which districts, but he said he applauded the commissioners who have made the most out of their resources.
“The chairman holds tie-breaking authority and leads the commission,” he said. “I believe we need a change in this position, someone who will prioritize the betterment of our roadways, the creation of job opportunities, and investments in infrastructure. I am committed to fostering unity among the commission members, pursuing funding opportunities, attracting industries to our county, and most importantly, ensuring that the voices of the people of Walker County are heard and respected.”
Madison said he has a unique perspective on leadership.
“As a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I have learned valuable lessons of focus, problem-solving, composure under pressure, and relentless determination,” he said. “These qualities will be at the forefront of my leadership in Walker County, as I tirelessly fight for opportunities that benefit each and every resident.”
