The Recovery Den hopes to make an impact in Jasper, Walker County

By Anne Louise Phillips, intern, The Community Journal

The Recovery Den, founded by Paige Britton, is a resource center that will soon be opening in Walker County.

Britton has been working as a recovery specialist since 2018. With The Recovery Den, she hopes to fill in gaps she has seen in recovery care programs.

“In every company that I worked for, I saw barriers, needs that needed to be met,” Britton said. “I actually got to be a part of bringing several resources into Walker County. There are still so many gaps that need to be filled, that’s part of why I stepped out on my own to start The Recovery Den.”

Describing the mission of The Recovery Den, Britton said, “This is a community center for those in recovery to hang out or to get resources.”

Britton believes The Recovery Den will make an impact.

“I don’t ever want us to be the place to say that we don’t have a resource. We’re going to find a way to help people and provide whatever they need,” she said. “I want people to feel wanted and welcome — no stigma, no judgment. They don’t need an excuse to just come hang out with people. They can come ask for what they need, or just chill out and have somewhere to meet new people.”

Britton does not see The Recovery Den as a competing resource, but as a new partner in an ongoing mission.

“We don’t want to compete with other resources in the community,” she said. “We want to come alongside them and work together.”

Anyone who has been affected by substance use disorder in any way is welcome at The Recovery Den, Britton added. Various resources such as transportation and counseling will be available.

Britton also served as a speaker at the recent Opioid Summit held by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office at Jasper First Methodist Church.

The Recovery Den is located at 1608 6th Avenue South in Jasper. For more information, call 205-265-1595 or email [email protected]. The tentative opening date for The Reovery Den is set for Friday, Sept. 1.
