Walker County Courthouse remains closed after water damage

The Walker County Commission met Wednesday to address the cleanup going on at the Walker County Courthouse since a pipe burst inside the building over the weekend. The following is what the commission released on its Facebook page after the meeting:

The Walker County Commission passed a resolution on Wednesday to close the courthouse to the public until further notice due to a water leak on the third floor that has caused extensive damage.

An emergency meeting was held by the Commission on Wednesday morning to inform the public about the damage and the clean-up plan that will occur over the next several days. Keith Knight, a representative from ServePro, a company specializing in cleaning, restoration, and remediation, discussed the plan in detail, but could not provide an exact day for re-opening.

The Commission left it up to the department heads to determine if their respective staff will continue to work from the courthouse building or work remotely. Courthouse security will be provided by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).

With safety and security in mind, the Commission is working to alleviate the problem as soon as possible and will continue to provide updates to the public over the next several days.
