Recovery Resource Center bringing Naloxone training to Cordova

The Recovery Resource Center, in partnership with Jefferson County Department of Health, is bringing its Naloxone training to Cordova.

The Recovery Resource Center is set to host its Naloxone training on August 30, 2022. It is the fourth training event since last year. It will take place at the pavilion next to the Piggly Wiggly and has the full support of Cordova mayor Jeremy Pate.

Naloxone is a prescription medication in the form of a nasal spray, used to treat suspected opioid overdose in a matter of minutes. With the vast majority of overdoses occurring in the home and around witnesses, having these rescue kits available can mean the difference between life and death.

“Drug abuse hits most every family,” Pate said. “Being able to educate people on life saving procedures can benefit all of us.”

Since opening its doors in Walker County in August 2021, the Recovery Resource Center has worked to help numerous people recover from opioid addiction. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is a state-certified assessment used to help identify the appropriate level of care needed, and then makes referrals based around that.

Certified Peer Specialists, Kayse Brown and Paige Britton work in long-term recovery and are committed to solving the opioid crisis that has taken root in Walker County in recent years. One of the ways they do this is through offering training and free Naloxone rescue kits.

The Recovery Resource Center encourages anyone and everyone to attend these trainings, and looks to hand out as many rescue kits as possible to members of the community.

“Every life is important,” says Brown. “We don’t discriminate. We have a heart for all, we love our county and are here to make a difference”.

The Recovery Resource Center is located at 1503 5th Avenue South in Jasper and can also be reached online at http://www.crisiscenterbham.org/
