Oktoberfest set for Saturday in downtown Jasper

By James Phillips, The Community Journal

Get ready to raise your steins and indulge in some German delights because Oktoberfest is coming to downtown Jasper on Saturday, (Oct. 7) starting at 3:00 pm.

The event will take place outside Tallulah Brewing Company on 4th Avenue, promising a day filled with beer specials, delicious food, exciting contests and fun activities for the whole family.

Oktoberfest Road closure map and schedule for Saturday, October 7th. 9:30am barricades will close a portion of 4th Avenue. Parking lots and street parking will be available outside the event space. The avenue will remained closed until approximately 11pm.

Beer enthusiasts will be delighted to find a variety of beer specials available, including Oktoberfest, German Style Pilsner, Vienna Lager, and a few special seltzers.

Food lovers will not be disappointed either, as Black Rock Bistro and Tallulah will be serving up traditional German dishes such as brats with traditional German toppings and Bavarian pretzels. Additionally, Kartoffelpuffer, crispy German potato cakes served with apple sauce, and Flammkuchen, German pizza topped with crème fraiche, thin sliced onions, bacon lardons, and caraway seeds, will be available.

Contests will add an extra layer of excitement to the event, with brats eating contests for both youth and adults, as well as a Stein Challenge. Participants can showcase their skills and win exciting prizes.

The Jasper Oktoberfest aims to provide fun for the whole family, with activities such as snow cones from The Sugar Shack, a golf simulator from Par64, kids crafts and inflatable bounce houses.

Music and entertainment will be provided by Polk-A-Wagon, playing lively polka music, and Smashley, who will be performing later in the evening. Attendees can dance and sing along to the energetic tunes.

The event would not be possible without the support of the event sponsors, including WealthArc Advisors, Jasper Family Clinic, Bivona Chiropractic Clinic, Bivona Family Dentistry, and Jasper Main Street.

Oktoberfest merchandise will also be available for purchase during the event, including T-shirts, event steins, and event lapel pins. T-shirts will be priced at $20 each, event steins at $15 each, and event lapel pins at $5 each. Those who purchase a stein will receive a $1 discount on beer pours at Tallulah Brewing.

Drew Gilbert, co-managing partner of Tallulah Brewing, expressed excitement about the event, mentioning the availability of traditional marzen style Oktoberfest, German style Pilsner, and Hefeweizen.

“All the credit for this event goes to the collaboration with the Bivonas and Jasper Main Street,” Gilbert said. “They assembled a team and have planned every aspect of this event. It should be such a great time for families with plenty for all ages.”

Jasper Main Street Executive Director Mike Pittman highlighted the organization’s commitment to bringing new events to downtown Jasper.

“As Jasper Main Street continues to grow its footprint, we intend to bring new and family-friendly events to downtown Jasper, hence our inaugural Oktoberfest,” he said.
